Believe it or not, there is a proper way to cross that coveted finish line. If you do not cross in the right manner, not only are you not showing respect for the other participants in the event, but you are also failing to give all the workers and volunteers the respect they deserve. As you near that completion marker, you will also not be able to miss all those individuals who are there to offer you love and support.
While you will definitely want to hug and greet your fan base, you must first be certain of one important fact. Are you sure you crossed the final finish indicator? It may sound insane, but you would be astounded by the number of people who get so excited by the sight of their loved ones that they stop to embrace them without running the entire race.
Hold your affection until you are certain you have achieved your triathlon goal. If you plan in advance and select a good location, outside of the finish line, where you will meet your supporters after the event, this will make it even easier for you to stay focused on the race itself. In order to properly end your run and have your time measured and recorded, you must step on the timing pad or turn in a portion of your assigned race number. The timing pad functions electronically through a chip you wear, and it makes note of the time you finish the race.
The type of finish line you cross will depend on the event itself. Some races have simple conclusions that include accessories such as simple timers, signs, and banners. Other contests make a grand production of the finish. Some of these meets have loud music, a presentation stage, and an announcer calling out the names of the participants as they conclude their courses. At the end of the race, the odds are you will not be concerned about the trappings at the finish; you will simply be over the moon about your own accomplishment.
Once you have finally come to the end of the triathlon and received hugs from yourself and your friends and family, then you need to take some time to recuperate. If you do not make time for your body to recover, you will not be able to celebrate your success. After the competition, make sure you stretch your muscles and drink plenty of water. You should also be mindful of your diet to ensure you are providing your body with the nutrients it needs to manage your recovery.
After you have enjoyed a little rest and recuperation, then it will be time for your next challenge. This triathlon was just the beginning, right?
